Downtown Revitalization Project

After completion of a jurisdictional transfer from WisDOT of the Village’s section of the old STH 64/35, Somerset had the opportunity to reconstruct Main Street in a way that would create a pedestrian-friendly downtown environment and encourage redevelopment of business. Several traffic calming techniques were used to slow traffic and make the downtown area safer for pedestrians, such as a narrower street, bump-outs, and lighted bollards at crosswalks. Funding assistance was provided by a $250,000 Wisconsin Department of Commerce CDBG-Public Facilities Grant. The grant application was prepared and administered by Cedar Corporation.
